TOTeMs Programe
Linkebeek TOTeM Series Programme:
The International Flame Research Foundation in partnership with LABORELEC would like to present the programme for the TOTeM Linkebeek Cluster.
TOTeM21: "Combustion Trends in Cement and Mineral Processing Industries"
12th November 2002
TOTeM22: Combustion Trends in Power Generation Industries
13th November 2002
This TOTeM cluster aims to bring together Member Organisations belonging to the Cement and Mineral Processing Industries, Power Generation Industries and their associated service providers.
The programmes consists of three parts. In the morning session of TOTeM21, five invited speakers will present their views on Combustion Trends in Cement and Mineral Processing Industries; while in the morning session of TOTeM22, seven speakers will present their views on Combustion Trends in Power Generation Industries.
For both TOTeMs, the afternoon session will consist of a poster/exhibition session; followed by an open forum intended to be an interactive discussion leading to the conclusions specified in the general objectives of a TOTeM.
IFRF will make every effort to present the programme as advertised in this announcement. However, IFRF reserves the right to modify the programme depending upon circumstances, without notice.
On behalf of the Foundation, the Organising Committee would like to thank our major sponsor LABORELEC for hosting these important activities of the Foundation. For further information, you can contact us by:

What are the immediate benefits gained by Individual Members who attended the TOTeM?
There are three immediate benefits that could be gained by attending a TOTeM
Firstly, you get the chance of learning first hand on the state of the art technologies used by the industries in relation to the TOTeM topics. Usually, TOTeMs provide an up-to-date coverage of what is going on within the industry.
Secondly, members are updated on the progress of IFRF research projects, for instance the Members Research Project, which are currently the HEC programme and the BioFlam Programme, relevant to the TOTeM topic. Also updates are given on the technical information dissemination project of the Foundation, for instance the Online Combustion Handbook.
Thirdly, TOTeMs provide an opportunity for networking. Meetings are traditionally attended by individual members belonging to Member Organisations of both Fuel End Users and Equipment/Service Providers. Additionally, the Foundation also encourages its members to present their research work as well as their products or services provided. This is done during the Poster/Exhibition session. In this way, we provide occasions where individual members could interact with each other.
Why is TOTeM important to the Foundation?
TOTeM activities play an essential role in determining the future technical goals of the Foundation. The interactions involved in these meetings provided an avenue for the Foundation to communicate and discuss with its Member Organisations their needs in combustion research and technology within their respective industrial sectors. Likewise, current research activities done by the Foundation through the IFRF Research Station are presented in the TOTeMs whenever possible.
The outcomes of all the TOTeMs will be gathered and conclusions will be drawn.
 Hartmutt Spliethoff
Deputy Superintendent of
Research (DSoR) |
The conclusions drawn out from the TOTeMs are used in determining the long, medium and short term research goals and the future technical development programme of the Foundation. The task of identifying and developing the planning of the future programmes and technical activities of the Foundation is the responsibility of Professor Hartmut Spliethoff, our current Deputy Superintendent of Research (DSoR). The planning documents formulated by our DSoR are generally presented in the Members Conference and are published in the Combustion Trends for the Future during the end of every triennial. Similarly, the summary, presentations, discussions and conclusions of these TOTeMs are published within the website of the Combustion Trends for the Future.
 Neil Fricker
Handbook
Editor in Chief |
Existing knowledge identified and reviewed in these TOTeMs are published in the Online Combustion Handbook as Combustion Files. The responsibility of bringing together this information falls to the hands of the Editor-in-Chief of the Handbook, Dr. Neil Fricker and his editorial team.
The tasks of IFRF NET, the communication centre of the Foundation, is to gather all the information collected and publish them accordingly with aims of disseminating VALUE ADDED information to all of our Member Organisations and most importantly to promote interactivity and cooperation between the Foundation and Member Organisations, and among themselves.
So register now for the Linkebeek TOTeM Series and be part of the future of the Foundation!
